Thermal printing (also known as direct thermal printing) is a digital printing process that creates a printed image by passing paper with a thermochromic coating, commonly known as thermal paper, over a print head made up of tiny electrically heated elements. Thermal printers are a quick and easy way to print documents, photos, presentations, and other items. They can print in colour, are non-fading, and can print on a variety of materials other than paper.

Thermal printers produce labels and signage on paper, tape, ribbon, and other materials rather than ink. Thermal printing is classified into two types: direct thermal and thermal transfer.
